I. THE COMMANDMENT OF CHRIST — WE ARE CALLED TO LOVE
Core Truth About Jesus: Jesus Christ is the Lord who commands His people to love as He loved.

“Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning.”— 1 John 2:7

A. The Commandment Is “Ancient” -“The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.”
B. The Commandment Is “Authoritative” – “the word which ye have heard”

II. THE COMPLETION OF CHRIST — THE COMMANDMENT IS MADE NEW IN HIM
Core Truth About Jesus: Jesus Christ is the true Light who fulfills, embodies, and transforms the commandment of love.

“Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you…” — 1 John 2:8

A. The Commandment Is “Renewed” in Christ – “That ye love one another; as I have loved you…”— John 13:34
B. The Commandment Is “Real” in Christ – “which thing is true in him and in you”
C. The Darkness Is “Passing” -“because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.”

III. THE CHARACTER OF CHRIST — HIS PEOPLE LOVE
Core Truth About Jesus: Jesus Christ transforms those who belong to Him so that His love becomes visible in their relationships.

A. Love Is “Evidence” of Abiding – “He that loveth his brother abideth in the light”
B. Love “Removes” Stumbling – “and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.”

IV. THE CALL OF CHRIST — COME OUT OF DARKNESS
Core Truth About Jesus: Jesus Christ is the Savior who calls sinners from darkness into His marvelous light and calls believers to walk consistently in that light.

A. For the Lost: “Come to” the Light – Jesus came into the world as the true Light.
B. For the Saved: “Continue in” the Light – If you belong to Christ, John calls you to live consistently with who you are.
C. For Everyone: “Examine Your Profession”
