I. EXPOSING THE EXPANSE OF HUMAN REBELLION
A. THE WORLD IS WITHOUT EXCUSE (ROMANS 1:20)
1) The invisible things of God are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made
2) This is not just a general knowledge, but a specific revelation of God’s power and divinity
3) Humans are without excuse because they have been given the revelation, but they have rejected it
II. A GLIMPSE OF GOD’S GLORY
A. GOD’S INTRINSIC NATURE: INFINITE AND INTIMATE
1) God is light (Romans 1:18)
2) God is holy (Romans 1:18)
B. GOD’S INESCAPABLE PRESENCE: ILLUMINATING HUMANITY
1) God is near us (Romans 1:19)
2) God is in us (Romans 1:20)
III. HUMANITY’S RESPONSE
A. REBELLION AND SUPPRESSION: RESISTING THE REVELATION
1) We suppress the truth (Romans 1:18)
2) We exchange the truth for lies (Romans 1:25)
B. DECEPTION AND DESTRUCTION: DELIGHTING IN DARKNESS
1) We are deceived by our own desires (Romans 1:21)
2) We are destroyed by our own sin (Romans 1:22)
IV. THE CONSEQUENCES OF SUPPRESSING THE TRUTH
A. THE WRATH OF GOD: GIVING OVER TO SIN
1) God gives them over to their own desires (Romans 1:24)
2) God gives them over to a debased mind (Romans 1:28)
B. THE WORK OF SIN: CORRUPTION AND SHAME
1) Sin produces corruption (Romans 1:26)
2) Sin produces shame and destruction (Romans 1:27)
